@jojoworld it looks like you have an iPhone. You can get a Suica card in apple wallet that lets you pay for the Subway with just tap and you can reload the card directly from your phone when you run out of funds. That’s what I did when I was in Japan last year and didn’t have to bother with those machines.

A cash tip in Japan: the best atms to use are in convenience stores. They tend to work with all international cards. There's even a 7-11 branded ATM at Narita Airport that I've used multiple times. Other ATMs don't seem to work with international, or at least US cards, pretty often.
